Clinical Supervision FAQ

  • My approach to clinical supervision centers around collaboration, mutual respect, and learning. During supervision, you can expect both a bottom-up, and top-down, approach to engagement and brainstorming in how to best care for your clients (and yourself!).

As my supervisee, I want to encourage you to find your own, individualistic, stride in therapy. With that said, I focus on the following modalities:

    1. CBT

    2. DBT

    3. Schema

    4. Existential-Humanistic

    5. Feminist

My primary focus is on adults (ages 18+) who identify as LGBTQIA2S+ and who hold a range of clinical diagnoses that include, but are not limited to: Psychosis, personality disorder, mood disorders, and thinking disorders.

My goal is to support you in becoming the best psychotherapist and clinical social worker you can be, and to build off of the types of modalities that you choose to incorporate into your practice.

Here are some topics you can expect to be addressed in clinical supervision with me:

    Self-care

    Theories and techniques

    Career goals

    Ethical business and marketing strategies

    Best practices for documentation

    Client safety

    Oregon laws and ethics

  • I supervisor clinical social work associatess (“CSWAs”) solely. The Oregon BLSW tells us what is needed to become a CSWA:

“The CSWA is the first step to a clinical license in Oregon. Whether you are right out of school with a fresh Masters Degree, or you have started your process in another state, the CSWA is your path to licensure. If you have already obtained 3500 hours of supervised clinical experience, 2000 hours of direct client hours, 100 hours of supervision (at least 50 in individual supervision) and have been supervised for no less than 24 months, you may qualify for the LCSW. If you have met the hours and time requirements, but have not yet taken the clinical exam, you may qualify for the LCSW Candidate. The LCSW Candidate is not a license to practice, until the exam is passed and the LCSW is issued.”

  • Feel free to reach out with any questions or inquires to: jkiilsgaard@humanistictherapynw.com

We can walk this path together and I can assist with paperwork and outreach to the BLSW.

  • Clinical supervision is held once weekly, for one hour, at $100 per session. This is the same price regardless of whether we are in a group or 1:1 setting.

  • I offer both individual and group supervision. Groups can be no more than 6 individuals per session. Clinical supervision is an agreement between the supervisor (me), the supervisee (you), and the Oregon BLSW.

If you are currently working with a mental health agency (or other entity who is offering supervision in the work place) we will also want to be in contact with them to ensure that all parties are aware of what is being worked on, and where responsibilities fall.
